Senators Reed and Collins have sent a Dear Colleagues' letter to all the
other senators, asking for them to support library legislation funding (LSTA
and school literacy). The deadline for the letter is next Tuesday and as
tomorrow is "Good Friday", I was hoping you might be able to get the Senator
to sign on today. 

Senator Lugar (202-224-4814) will have a person who works on the Senator's
Library Legislation. This person will tell you if s/he has seen the "Dear
Colleague's Letter" from Senators Reed/Collins. [It is attached. They have
received one, but may have missed it, amongst all the millions of pieces of
paper they receive.] You can indicate that "we would like the Senator to
sign on to it right away." Senator Lugar's aide will call Seth Colton in
Senator Collins office: 202-224-2523, to indicate the Senator's willingness
to sign the letter

If you get the sense that Senator Lugar's aide needs more persuading, you
can ask directly "we know the Senator is a library supporter, will you be
able to get him on, or do you need to hear from other constituents?" Usually
20-25 calls does it! 

Please call your Trustees, Friends groups and other librarians and ask them
to call that person in the Senator's office. ( You can mention to these
Library Lovers that it takes just 16 words, 2 minutes, toward millions in
Library Funding! [Calling Senator Luger's DC office at: (202-224-4814)] the
library lover says: "Please ask Senator Luger to sign Senator Collin's 'Dear
Colleague's Letter' for Library Funding. Thank you." [They need fear not,
the staffer asks NO questions, just hears that message and calls Collins'
office knowing he has supported the will of his library loving
constituents!]

Remember, the letter needs to be signed by Tuesday, April 10.
