The Ball State University Libraries are pleased to present a one day
workshop on basic digitization. Librarians, archivists, and other
information professionals are invited to attend, as well as support
staff members involved in digitization projects.
The purpose of this workshop is to educate attendees about basic
digitization practices and standards, and to provide hands-on
demonstrations with scanning hardware and software. Attendees are
invited to bring examples from their own collections to practice
digitization techniques. There will also be plenty of time for
discussion/Q&A, as well as networking with fellow implementers of
digitization projects.
Attend the Discovering Digitization workshop and learn from librarians
who work with digital projects every day.
Key issues to be discussed:
* Why digitize?
* Selection of appropriate materials
* Project management/workflow
* Digitization standards and best practices
* Background concepts and key terms involved in image capture
(resolution, bit-depth, file formats, etc.)
* Equipment (hardware and software)
* Photoshop basics (cropping, color management, creation of
derivative files, etc.)
* Quality control
* Hands-on demonstrations
This workshop will be given by members of Ball State University
